Lathe chuck
The right choice of chuck is crucial for the quality of the manufactured parts. Lathe chucks are special tool holders that are attached to a lathe and are used to lock workpieces that are set in rotation. They come in different designs and sizes for different applications. Most lathe chucks are made of steel and are very hard and strong. There are different materials from which the jaws are made for different requirements. There are jaws made of steel, aluminum or plastic, for example, so as not to cause additional damage to the workpiece. Lathe chucks are therefore subjected to different stresses depending on the application. For general use in metalworking, a simple, robust lathe chuck is completely sufficient. For machining processes with higher demands and larger diameters, however, a solid lathe chuck is required.Types of clamping:
- 3-jaw lathe chuck, centrically clamping
- 3-jaw lathe chuck, acentrically clamping, individually
- 4-jaw lathe chuck, centrically clamping
- 4-jaw lathe chuck, acentrically clamping, individually
Outer jaws and inner jaws are supplied with a lathe chuck.
Due to their design, the jaws are suitable for different areas of application. The inner jaws are intended for internal clamping of the workpiece and for external clamping of small workpieces. The outer jaws, on the other hand, are intended for purely external clamping of large workpieces - but only cover a certain range (from-to) of diameters. They are mainly used when working on larger or heavier workpieces.
The main feature of lathe chucks is their universal applicability. They can be used on almost any type of lathe, whether it is a CNC lathe or a conventional lathe.
